Factory Engraved and Gold Inlaid
    Factory Engraved Retailer Marked Gebruder Merkel 20 Gauge Model 303e Over/Under Shotgun - Serial no. 42978, 20 gauge, 26 3/4 inch
vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1956.
Blued Bohler Antinit steel barrels with single white bead sight on the
matted vent rib, “GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL” and “W. GLASER-WAFFEN, ZURICH” marked at the breech on the left and right respectively, 70 mm (2 3/4 inch) chambers with automatic ejectors, and beautiful floral scroll work at the breech of the upper barrel. The grey hand detachable sidelock action features gorgeous full coverage floral scroll
engraving with occasional bouquets of flowers on either bolster and “GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL” in a banner on the underside. The engraving extends to the trigger guard, tangs, and release lever. The gun features a single selective trigger and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered three-piece
forend with engraved fittings including the Deeley latch release and straight grip stock with blank gold initial oval and leather wrapped recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .624/.625 inches; choke constriction .009/.029 inches; minimum wall thickness
.042/.042 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus original blue finish on the barrels, some scattered spotting o the action, 80% blue on the trigger guard, a few minor blemishes in the refurbished wood, and sharp checkering on the forend and stock. Mechanically excellent.

J. P. Sauer & Son Boxlock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 222259, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/
casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued Krupp Special Steel barrels with dual white bead sights
on the matted, concave solid rib which
is marked “J. P. SAUER & SON.”, flourishes of floral scroll engraving
at the muzzles and breeches, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The casehardened, sideclipped, scalloped boxlock action displays carved fences, near full coverage floral scroll engraving, “J. P. SAUER & SON” on either side, a gold inlaid pheasant in flight on the left, and a gold inlaid setter on the right. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend
with engraved fitting, Deeley latch release, and ebony tip inlay and straight grip stock with “JHT” marked
inscription oval and serrated buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .717/.718 inches; choke
constriction .011/.032 inches; minimum wall thickness .037/.032 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% original blue finish on the barrels, traces of case colors in the protected areas with the balance an attractive grey patina,
and mild handling evidence. There is some chipping along the left edge of the forend; otherwise, the revarnished wood is very fine with some small dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
