LOT 1021 Very Fine Documented Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Lever Action Takedown .45-90 Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 108304, 45-90 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, highly figured checkered walnut stock. The accompanying factory letter confirms the octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman sights, shotgun butt and takedown configuration. The factory letter states the rifle was received in the warehouse on March 27, 1896, and shipped on the same day. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail beaded blade Lyman front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight and a folding tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the standard two-line Winchester New Haven address ahead of the rear sight and “45-90 WCF” at the breech. The lower tang has the serial number and two-line patent dates marking. The highly figured select walnut forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered. The buttstock is fitted with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap and a smooth iron shotgun buttplate. “1040 XXS” is on left of tang, and the “1040” matching assembly number is on stock inlet. CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 70% slightly thinned original blue finish. The bolt, receiver and takedown collar retain 80% original blue finish. 60% original blue remains on the forend cap. The buttplate is a mix of original blue and smooth gray patina. 40% original niter blue remains on the loading gate. The hammer and lever retain 95% original case colors. The wood is excellent with some minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A solid example of a Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Takedown Rifle in .45-90 WCF.
