Antique Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with Special Order 30 Inch Barrel in Desirable .45-90 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 68826, 45-90 WCF cal., 30 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured with the desirable early casehardened receiver found only on Model 1886 rifles manufactured prior to 1902. The accompanying factory letter confirms the 30 inch octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber and plain trigger. Per the factory letter, the rifle was received in the warehouse on September 9, 1892 and shipped on October 14, 1892. Standard two-line address and “45-90 W.C.F.” on the top barrel flat, model designation on the upper tang, and two-line patent marking and serial number on the lower tang. The special order, 30 inch octagon barrel is fitted with Lyman beaded blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights, and a peep sight is mounted on the upper tang. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Very good, retains traces of the original blue finish in sheltered areas of the barrel and magazine and faint patterns of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, some silvered case colors on the receiver, and a few small patches of light surface pitting. The lightly sanded and re-oiled wood is also fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, and a short hairline crack in the left of the wrist creating some slight separation with the receiver. LOT 1056 Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 79912, 44 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1881 as a Second Model with dust cover rail secured to the receiver by two screws and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The included factory letter (copy) confirms the octagon barrel and plain trigger. The letter also states the rifle was received in the warehouse on November 18, 1881 and shipped the same day. The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The barrel has the two-line address/King’s patent marking. The cartridge elevator is marked “44 CAL.” “MODEL 1873” is stamped on the upper tang. The straight grip stock is fitted with a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included). CONDITION: Very good. The rifle retains 20% original blue finish on the barrel along with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas of the remaining surfaces, otherwise a smooth brown-gray patina. The wood is also very good with the initials “WW” hand marked on the buttstock (right side) and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
LOT 1057 Antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 21023, 38 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1893, with standard two-line address and caliber marking on top of the barrel, three-line model designation/patent date on the upper tang, and serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration as well as receipt at the warehouse on 13 December 1893 and shipment on 8 June 1894 to order number 14885. CONDITION: Very good, retains 20% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina. The revarnished wood is also very good with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and retaining about 60% of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
LOT 1058 Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine - Serial no. 400650, 30-40 cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish. Manufactured in 1921. The carbine features a pinned blade front sight, a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 32 on the ladder and to 14 on the base, a saddle ring mounted on the left side of the receiver, standard markings including the Winchester factory oval proof on top of the receiver, carbine stock with finger groove on the forearm, and trapdoor buttplate containing a bore pull through. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The lightly sanded re-oiled wood is fine with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine in Desirable .38-55 WCF Caliber - Serial no. 886181, 38-55 WCF cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, gumwood stock. Manufactured in 1919 in desirable .38-55 WCF caliber with standard markings including Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. Fitted with pinned blade front and folding ladder rear sights, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey or brown patina. The revarnished wood is very good with numerous minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, and four cut grooves on the bottom of the forearm. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
LOT 1060 Early Production Antique Ithaca Gun Co. Baker Model Damascus Side by Side 10 Gauge Hammer Coach Style Shotgun - Serial no. 6122D, 10 gauge, 23 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1887. The barrels have been shortened as was common with guns used by shotgun messengers and express car agents in the late 19th century and early 20th century. During the heyday of the express company it was generally accepted that most agents were issued a revolver and shotgun; often a short barreled shotgun that was easier to wield in the tight spaces of a rail car or on a moving stagecoach. A bead front sight is fitted on a solid rib marked with the Ithaca address and “DAMASCUS STEEL.” The checkered pistol grip stock has a hard rubber grip cap and Ithaca duck emblem hard rubber buttplate. Matching serial numbers on the water table, barrels, and forearm. Water table is stamped with Baker’s patent, “PAT’D MAY 25 1880, JUNE 1, 1880,” and “D” suffix in serial number for Grade D. The barrels have 2 3/4 inch chambers and chokes measure at cylinder. Length of pull: 13 7/8 inches; drop at comb 1 9/16 inches: drop at heel 2 3/4 inches. CONDITION: Very good with non-factory shortened barrels. The as found appearance consists of smooth dark brown patina on the metal with strong visible Damascus pattern and traces of original case colors on the receiver and wood with great character, especially on the forearm (missing triangular piece at tip) with hand worn checkering from a life time of use.
