Exceptional Framed Dunes Landscape Signed Oil
Painting by Well Known Artist Frank V. Dudley -
This painting shows a scene of Indiana Dunes State
Park. The serene scene shows the calm waters of Lake
Michigan as they meet the sands and scattered foliage
of a beach. The bottom left of the painting is signed
“Frank V. Dudley”. The painting is housed in a gold painted wooden frame. The oil painting meaures21 1/2 inches by 19 1/2 inches and frame overall measures 24 inches by 26 1/2 inches. Frank Dudley was well known, besides as a landscape painter, for his activism in preserving the dunes of Lake Michigan in Indiana. His love of the dunes began in 1911 after going on a hiking trip to the area with the Prairie Club of Chicago. Beginning in 1916, Dudley spent almost all of his time as a landscape painter creating works of scenes from all around the area. In 1918, thirty of his paintings were featured in the “Western Scenes” exhibit co sponsored by Friends of our Native Landscape, the Dunes Pageant Association, and the Conservation Council. Many of the attendees were shocked to learn that the inherent beauty of the paintings were from their own region in Indiana.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, with a vibrant coloration to the paint. The frame is very good with some crazing to the paint and patches of peeling.

Framed Impressionist Scene of
Three Ships Returning to a Beach -
This painting is done in the classic
impressionist style and shows a beach
with three ships sailing towards it.
On the beach is what appears to be a
family. Perhaps one of the boats carries more of their family members. There are fluffy clouds in the sky and calm waters suggesting the possibility of a happy outcome for the scene. The bottom right of the painting is signed with an illegible signature (possibly Weislinbrack 188?). The painting is housed in a walnut frame with gold painted interior trim and black painted exterior trim. The painting measures 25 inches by 17 inches. The frame overall measures 24 1/2 inches by 32 1/2 inches.
CONDITION: Very good with minimal fading of the painting, some water spots, and a few light handling marks on the frame.
