Revolutionary War Era Dutch Type IV Flintlock Carbine - Serial no. 10, 69 cal., 40 7/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Dutch Type IV flintlock carbines are described on pages 399-403 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms Volume I”. “C KORTE/AMSTERDAM” marked at the center of the lock. The furniture is all brass including the distinctive extended length front barrel band and unmarked circular brass plate on top of the wrist. Iron ramrod pipe. “No 10” inscribed in fancy script on top of the buttplate tang. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a reproduction leather sling. CONDITION: Good, exhibiting a mix of gray and brown patina with scattered light pitting, moderate flash pitting, and nice lock markings. Brass retains an attractive golden aged patina. Stock is also good with scattered scratches and dents, a crack ahead of the lock, a chip behind the lock, and some cracks on
either side of the buttplate. Mechanically needs work, hammer will not stay in full cock.

Documented Revolutionary War Era Dutch Type IV Flintlock Musket - NSN, 75 cal., 43 inch round bbl., brown finish, walnut stock. Dutch Type IV flintlock muskets are described on pages 395-399 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms Volume I” with this exact musket pictured on pages 395, 397, and 398. The first picture caption on page 395 states, “The salient identifying features of Dutch (Type IV) muskets and carbines and [are] convex-surfaced lock plates and cocks, brass furniture, and the barrel retained by either three or four barrel bands. The rearward extension of the lower portion of this example’s upper band has been eliminated subsequent to original manufacture.”The picture caption on page 398 states,“The convex surfaced brass side plates of Dutch (Type IV) muskets have a distinctive reverse ‘S’ shape, with a circular disc at the front.” The barrel has faint remnants of what is likely the marking “GENERALITEIT” which refers to Dutch government ownership for the land service (reference page 399 of Moller’s Volume I book for a similar example pictured). The furniture is all brass with an iron ramrod pipe. “V=6114” marked on the circular brass plate on top of the wrist. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a later 1911 dated leather sling.
CONDITION: Good, retaining most of the refinished brown finish with scattered moderate pitting and worn barrel markings. Brass fittings retain an attractive bright patina with the front band modified as mentioned above. Stock is also good as sanded and re-oiled with scattered dents and scratches, general overall wear, numerous large cracks and absent sections, and chips behind the barrel tang. Documented Revolutionary War Era French Charleville Model 1766/70 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 44 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Model 1766 muskets such as this one were among the most heavily used firearms by the American rebels to fight the British during the Revolutionary War. Model 1766 infantry muskets are described on pages 336-340 of George D. Moller’s “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume I” with this exact example pictured on pages 336, 337, and 339. This example features a
bayonet lug on top towards the muzzle that is 1 1/4 inches behind the muzzle, indicating this was a post-1770 French arsenal modification. Page 337 of Moller’s book explains, “The Model 1766 musket was originally fabricated with a 1/4” by 3/16” rectangular lug brazed to the underside of the barrel 1 1/8” behind the muzzle. The modifications of 1770 included relocating this lug to the top of the barrel, 1 1/4” behind the muzzle.” Features a brass blade front sight mounted on the rear strap of the upper barrel band, an upside down “star/D” above “Charleville” marked in script at the center of the lock, “star/D” marked at the top left quarter of the breech, “N/star/(illegible)” marked on the S shaped side plate, leather sling swivels mounted on the middle band and trigger guard finial, and a “D” is stamped on the left of the buttstock. Small “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a “US” marked socket bayonet and leather sling. CONDITION: Very good, exhibiting a mix of smooth mottled brown patina overall with some scattered light pitting, moderate flash pitting, and crisp lock markings. Stock is also very good with scattered light scratches and dents, a gouge on the right of the forend, a crack ahead of the rear lock screw and a chip above it, a few chips behind the barrel tang, a mild cracked and repaired section running between the side plate and trigger, a few gouges and chips ahead of the trigger guard finial, and a few minor cracks around the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is fair with scattered mild pitting. Provenance: The George Moller Collection. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
LOT 1107 Documented Revolutionary War Era Dutch Type III Flintlock Musket - NSN, 75 cal., 40 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Dutch Type III flintlock muskets are described on pages 389-395 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms Volume I” with this exact musket pictured at the top of page 390. Page 389 of the book states, “The salient features of the Dutch (Type III) musket are: (1) the barrel is retained by three or four bands; (2) a lock with a flat, bevel-edged plate and cock; and (3) brass furniture.” This example has a bottom mounted bayonet lug at the muzzle, a blade front sight mounted on the rear strap of the front barrel band, an iron ramrod pipe, and a faint unidentified maker mark on the lock. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a later leather sling. CONDITION: Fair, exhibiting a mix of refinished brown finish and smooth brown patina overall, some scattered areas of light pitting, and moderate flash pitting. Hammer is a crude replacement. Brass retains an attractive golden aged patina. Stock is also fair as sanded and re-oiled with scattered dents and scratches, some mild chips, and a large repaired split at the wrist.
