LOT 3153
Remington Late Production Type I Over/Under Derringer with London Retailer Case
- Serial no. 196, 41 RF cal., 3 inch solid rib bbl., nickel finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured
from 1870 to 1888, also known as the Model No. 2, this later production Type I derringer was manufactured circa 1868. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the
two line address, “E REMINGTON & SONS ILION, N.Y./ELLIOTS PATENT DEC. 12TH 1865,”
and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel and on the frame under
the left grip panel. These were the last series of over/under derringers numbered in
sequential order until much later Remington-U.M.C. production. It is fitted with and extractor on the left of the barrels and smooth rosewood grips. Includes a hardwood case with Stephen Grant trade label inside
the lid, oiler, cleaning rod, and nine .41 RF cartridges. Also includes a letter from Littlefield
Antiques describing the gun.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 80% of the original nickel finish with some scattered light flaking, most noticeably on the left side of the barrels. The grips are fine with some mild wear and scattered light handling marks, and retaining about half of the varnish. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved Remington Late Production Type I Over/Under Derringer - Serial no. 3441, 41 RF
cal., 3 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, rosewood grips. Also known as the Model No. 2, this later production Type I derringer was manufactured circa 1868. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address,
“E REMINGTON & SONS ILION, N.Y./ELLIOTS PATENT DEC. 12TH 1865,” and the serial number is marked on
the bottom of the barrel and on the frame under the left grip panel. These were the last series of over/under derringers numbered in sequential order until much later Remington-U.M.C. production. The sides of the
frame, back strap, and breech end of the upper barrels are engraved with flourishes of floral scroll. It is fitted with smooth rosewood grips.
CONDITION: Very good, retains strong traces of the original blue finish in sheltered areas with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina with a few scattered patches of very light surface pitting. The grips are good with extensive scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.

Remington Elliot 5-Shot Ring Trigger Pepperbox Pistol - Serial no. 9003, 22 RF cal., 3 inch fluted bbl., blue finish,
rosewood grips. Introduced in 1863, the Remington-Elliot was an improved version of the “Zig-Zag” pepperbox using a fixed barrel group with a rotating hammer assembly and double action ring trigger, setting the distinctive pattern for Remington’s later pocket pistols. Silver bead front and frame notch rear sights, with the 2-line address and patent
dates on top of the barrels. It is fitted with a pair of smooth rosewood grips.
CONDITION: Very good, retains strong traces of the original blue finish, more prominent on the barrels, with
the balance mostly a smooth grey patina. The grips are also very good with some light handling marks scattered
throughout. Mechanically fine.

Scarce Remington Elliot’s Patent Single Shot Vest Pocket Derringer - Serial no. 6806, 41 RF cal., 2 3/8 inch round bbl., nickel finish, rosewood
grips. One of likely less than 10,000 estimated to have been manufactured between 1867 and 1888. These pistols feature an interesting combination
hammer-breechblock. The barrel screws into the frame and is marked with the standard two-line address and patent marking on top. The
serial number is found on the underside of the barrel and frame and is hand marked on the inside of both grip panels. Fitted with a silver bead front sight and smooth rosewood grips.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 75% plus of the original nickel finish with the
balance having flaked to mostly a smooth grey patina. There are a series of numerous minor dings on the bottom of the barrel and top of the
frame. The dark grips are very good with minor chips absent from both
top front corners and otherwise light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
