Highly Desirable Antique Nickel Plated Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver - Serial no. 168744, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in 1897. The revolver has highly sought after factory nickel finish along with niter blue screw heads, cylinder pin and cylinder pin release. The barrel is marked with the one-line Hartford address on top and “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER” on the left side. The frame has the two-line patent dates marking followed by a circled Rampant Colt on the left side. British proofs are present on the underside of the barrel and on each cylinder flute. Given the British proofs, it is not hard to imagine that the revolver was purchased for a safari to accompany a rifle also chambered in .44 WCF. What remains undisputed is the high condition of the revolver, presenting an outstanding appearance rarely found in these legendary antique Peacemakers. Matching serial numbers appear on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The loading gate has the assembly number “109.” The revolver is wearing checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval panel at the tops.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% original nickel plating with some light flacking on the grip straps. The small parts retain 95% plus original nitre blue. The markings are crisp. The tight fitting grips are also excellent with crisp checkering. Hammer is sits a bit low in the safety notch, otherwise the action functions properly. An outstanding overall appearance, this highly attractive, highly desirable antique nickel plated Colt Frontier Six Shooter SAA would be hard to improve upon.
Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection.
