Attractive Massachusetts Arms Co. Maynard Model 1882 No. 16 Improved Single Shot Target Rifle - Serial no. 8640, 25 cal., 30 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened/nickel finish, fancy checkered walnut stock. This rifle is one of the Maynard target rifles produced in the late 19th century by the Massachusetts Arms Company.
It was likely used by a member of a rifle team. It features a windage adjustable globe front sight, rear peep sight on the tang, “MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS. CO./CHICOPEE FALLS/1882” on the right side of the action, “EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY
27.1851./DEC.6.1859” followed by “1873” on the left side, matching numbers on the barrel and lower tang, a fancy grade checkered walnut forearm and
stock with grip that has a removable wood insert piece over the lower tang, and a nickel plated Swiss buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine with essentially all of the original nickel, 80% plus original blue and 85% vivid casehardened finish, some scattered minor marks and scratches, and general light overall wear. The wood is also very fine and has crisp checkering, glossy finish, minor handling and storage wear, and attractive figure. Mechanically excellent.

  LOT 3364 Desirable Bullard Single Shot Target Rifle - Serial no. 3757, 32-40 cal., 32 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1883-1890 and subsequently equipped with a #3 Winchester barrel in .32-40 and marked “32/40” on top of the frame at the breech. The barrel has Winchester markings, a globe front sight, a pair of scope mounting blocks, and a rear dovetail filler block. The action has the Bullard address and patent marking on top at the breech and a Vernier peep sight mounted on the upper tang. It is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and pistol grip stock
with nickel plated Swiss buttplate. CONDITION: Fine as custom rebarreled, likely in period, with 75% original casehardened finish on the action, 80% of the blue finish, patches of mild pitting on the
sides of the barrel, essentially all of the nickel plating remaining on the buttplate, and generally minor overall wear. The wood is fine aside from a small chip on the rear corner on
the right of the forearm, some thin cracks in the grain on the buttstock, a few scratches and dings, and minor edge wear. Mechanically fine.

LOT 3365 Very Fine Allen & Wheelock Drop Breech Sporting Rifle - Serial no. 916, 42 cal., 26 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Approximately 1,500-2,000 of these rifles were manufactured c. 1860s-1870s by Allen & Wheelock and Ethan Allen & Co. Some were used by soldiers in the Civil War as privately purchased arms. Features a “pinched” blade front sight, the two-line address and patent marking on top at the breech, an adjustable notch rear sight on the frame, smooth forearm, and straight wrist buttstock. CONDITION: Very fine with 75% of the lightly thinning original blue finish on the barrel, 60% of the original blue finish on the frame, 80% vivid original case colors on the breechblock and hammer, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, and mostly mild age and storage related wear overall including some slight oxidation. The re-oiled wood is fine and has some light dings and scratches and a spliced repair at the toe. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250
LOT 3366 Stevens “Removable Sideplate” Ideal Rifle with Two-Digit Serial Number 14 - Serial no. 14, 32-40 cal., 30 1/4 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This model carries the distinction of being Stevens’ first underlever single shot rifle. Reportedly 2,000 of these rifles were manufactured c. 1893- mid 1894, and this example has the early serial number “14” marked on the barrel, frame, sideplate, lower tang (also has another faint “14” marking underneath), forearm, and buttplate. It is equipped with a nickel blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight, and tang mounted peep sight and has the one-line address and patent marking on the upper left side of the barrel. The buttstock is fitted with a nickel Swiss buttplate. CONDITION: Fine with most of the older professionally reblued finish remaining on the barrel, 85% original nickel on the buttplate, light original case colors, smooth dark gray patina on the balance of the action, and light overall wear. The wood is very fine and has most of the glossy varnish remaining, some attractive grain, faint cracks and flakes at the upper tang, and minimal light handling and storage type marks.
