A Remarkable 92-Year-Old Time Capsule
Outstanding and Desirable First Year Production Colt Super 38 Semi- Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 1677, 38 Colt super cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, checkered walnut grips. This is an exceptional example of a first year production Colt Super .38 manufactured in 1929. These early pre-war Colt Super .38 automatics are very
difficult to obtain especially in this exceptional high end condition. They exhibit all the early exceptional fine workmanship from the Colt factory to include a beautiful Colt high polish commercial blue finish, with the factory fitted fully checkered walnut grips. The left side of the slide is marked with the Colt two line elongated Hartford address and 1897-1913 patent dates. The right side is marked “COLT/SUPER .38/AUTOMATIC”, followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. There is a half-moon front sight and a square notch dovetail rear sight. It is fitted with the correct unmarked, Colt .38 Super barrel with an all blue finish and factory polished feedramp and chamber area. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped “1/Colt VP inside a triangle” proofmark with the opposite side stamped with the number “20” and the serial number stamped on the frame above the trigger. The magazine has a two tone finish, is marked “38 AUTO/COLT” on the bottom and has the correct reinforcing rib in the center of the magazine. It has the correct original parts such as the arched and checkered mainspring housing, short horned grip safety, thick checkered thumb safety and checkered slide stop release. CONDITION: Excellent plus with 98% plus of the original blue finish overall with just a hint of wear on the very front edges of the slide. The grips are also excellent with a nice dark color overall, sharp checkering and only a couple of handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
