Rare Antique Stevens Model 23 Sure Shot Single Shot Rifle with Case - NSN, 22 RF cal., 20 1/4 inch round bbl., blue/nickel finish, walnut stock. Introduced in 1894 and discontinued in 1896 due to poor performance, making this a rare gun. Blade and notch sights on the barrel with a folding peep sight
on the tang. The rifle shows standard markings. These rifles are discussed in depth on pages 24-30 of James Grant’s books “Boys’ Single Shot Rifles”. Includes a period leather takedown case.
CONDITION: Fine, showing a smooth grey patina with splashes of brown on the barrel, 85% original nickel, and mild handling evidence. The wood is very good with some varnish loss and sanding marks visible at the wrist and numerous dings and scratches. The case is good with missing handle and detached but included lid. Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection.
Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500
