Extremely Rare Stevens .41 Caliber Tip Up Derringer Pistol - Serial no. 100, 41 RF cal., 4 inch part octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood grips. This is an especially rare model of a Stevens pistol, with fewer than 100 believed to have been manufactured circa 1875 and few examples known to exist today. The barrel is fitted with a German silver blade front sight with a sight notch on top of the hammer. The upper left barrel flat is marked with the two line Chicopee address/Sept. 6, 1864 patent date (note that most of the observed pistols lack maker markings). The serial number “100” is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip and the number “2621” is stamped on the barrel. The brass bird head frame has a circular side plate and smooth rosewood grips. CONDITION: Fair. The barrel and hammer have a smooth gray patina over extensive minor pitting. A dovetail sight slot has been added and filled ahead of the barrel marking. The brass has an even aged patina with a couple areas of minor dings. Action is fine. A rare Stevens pistol with only a handful having been located. Even though the condition is not there, this is an extremely rare variation of a Stevens pistol missing from most collections. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,500
