Scarce Brass Frame James Reid Model 3A Dual Ignition Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 1960, 32 RF cal., 4 5/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, walnut grips. Only an estimated 220 Model 3A revolvers were manufactured in 1863 (only a few with brass frames). “J. REID. N.Y. CITY/PATD. APL. 28, 1863” marked barrel. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good overall with smooth gray patina on the iron, scattered moderate pitting, attractive aged patina on the frame, traces of original silver under the grips, a few small chips in the grips, and a crack at the bottom of the right grip. Irving” Marked Antique Pocket Handguns -A) James Reid Model 1 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 814, 22 cal., 3 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured by James Reid c. 1861-1864. Barrel marked “ADDRESS W. IRVING. 20. CLIFF. ST. NY.” Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good overall with traces of original blue finish, gray and brown patina, minor oxidation, mild overall wear, distinct engraving, mild edge wear on the grips, strong varnish, and a small chip on the right grip. Mechanically fine. B) Single Shot Derringer - Serial no. 4, 22 cal., 2 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/bright finish, rosewood grips. Attributed to James Reid c. 1862-1864. Less than 500 estimated and around 1/2 with Irving markings. “W IRVING” on the breech. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good overall with much of the dull refinished blue, scattered pitting, dark aged patina on the frame, moderate overall wear, and some loss at the edges of the grips. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750 LOT 3537 Two Scarce James Reid Model 1 Spur Trigger Pocket Revolvers -A) Reid Model 1 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 35, 22 RF cal., blue/silver finish, walnut grips. Only an estimated 850 produced in three variations c. 1861-1864. Both have barrels marked “J.REID. NEW.YORK.” and matching serial numbers. “A” is the early style “high hump” variant with the taller hump at the rear and has the brass circular inspection plate on the left and a brass loading gate. CONDITION: Very good overall with 20% original blue and silver, mostly smooth grey patina, remnants of old varnish, some minor wear and handling marks on the grips, and a hairline crack in the bottom of the right grip. Mechanically excellent. B) Reid Model 1 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 232, 22 RF cal., 3 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Later style “straight line” frame variant with the lower hump and the circular inspection plate on the left. CONDITION: Very good overall with 30% original blue, mottled brown-grey patina, scattered light pitting, some minor handling marks and chips on the grips, and most of the varnish. Estimate: 1,200 - 1,800 LOT 3538 Two Rare Antique James Reid “Straight Line” Model 1 Spur Trigger Revolvers -A) Reid Model 1 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 1683, 22 RF cal., 3 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, rosewood grips. Only an estimated 850 manufactured c. 1861-1864 in three variations. These are both the later style “straight line” variation without inspection plates and have matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good overall with traces of the original blue, mostly smooth grey patina, small patches of oxidation, minor flaking of the varnish, and handling marks on the grips. Mechanically excellent. B) Reid Model 1 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 519, 22 RF cal., 3 3/8 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good overall with 20% original blue, smooth grey patina, scattered light pitting, moderate wear on the grips, a minor chip on the upper left, and about half the varnish. Very Scarce Early Production Iron Frame W. Irving Second Model Percussion Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 1026, 31 cal., 4 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured by James Reid for W.W. Marston. William Irving was an agent/retailer. Only an estimated 1,500 iron frame Second Models were manufactured c. 1863-1864. Barrel marked “ADDRESS.W.IRVING.20.CLIFF.ST.N.Y.” (address also used by Reid). Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Fine, retains 40% original blue finish on the barrel, traces of blue on the remainder, and a grey-brown patina on the balance. The grips are very good with a minor chip at the top of the left panel and light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection. Estimate: 950 - 1,600 LOT 3540 Two James Reid “Dual Ignition” Model 4 Spur Trigger Revolvers -A) Scarce Reid Model 4 Revolver - Serial no. 3158, 32 RF cal., 4 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured c. 1863-1865. Both have “J. REID N.Y. CITY/PATD. APL. 28. 1863” on the barrels. “A” is the rare variation with the small divots around the front nd of the cylinder and a thumb screw that locks the cylinder and action (Tileston safety screw), a very rare feature. CONDITION: Good with traces of original case colors on the hammer, 20% original blue on the barrel and cylinder, traces of original finish elsewhere, mostly smooth brown and gray patina on the balance, mild pitting and cleaning marks, and mild wear. The grips are very good and have attractive glossy finish, light dings, minor edge wear, and a small chip on one corner on the right. Mechanically fine. B) Reid Model 4 Revolver - Serial no. 2338, 32 RF cal., 4 inch octagon bbl., silver finish, rosewood grips. CONDITION: Fine overall with 30% original silver remaining mostly on the frame, areas turned a plum tone, gray patina on the balance, minor pitting, mild overall wear, glossy finish on the grips, and a crack and flake on the left grip. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500 LOT 3541 Three Antique James Reid Spur Trigger Pocket Revolvers -A) Rare Reid Model 4 Dual Ignition Revolver with 8 Inch Barrel - Serial no. 2427, 32 RF cal., 8 inch octagon bbl., silver finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured in 1863-1865. “J. REID N.Y. CITY/PATD. APL. 28. 1863” marked barrel. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Fair with scattered moderate pitting on the polished surfaces. Grips are good with some handling marks and mild crazing. Mechanically fine. B) Reid Model 2 Revolver - Serial no. 1294, 32 RF cal., 6 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, rosewood grips. Only an estimated 1,200 were manufactured c. 1862-1864. “Straight Line” frame variant with ejector rod. “JAMES. P. FITCH.N.Y. PHOENIX. REVOLVER.” marked barrel. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Fair with scattered moderate pitting and some scattered dings. Grips are good with some handling marks and mild crazing. Mechanically fair (broken release for the loading gate). C) Reid Model 2 Revolver - Serial no. 1298, 32 RF cal., 6 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, rosewood grips. Early marking “ADDRESS W. IRVING. 20. CLIFF. ST. N.Y.” on the barrel. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Very good overall with traces of original blue, gray patina on the frame, scattered light spotting, light pitting, and some light handling marks and light crazing at the bottom edges of the grips. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500 LOT 3542 Three Antique James Reid Dual Ignition Spur Trigger Pocket Revolvers -A) Reid Model 4 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 3121, 32 RF cal., 5 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood grips. An estimated 1,070 Model 4s were manufactured c. 1864-1865. One percussion nipple installed. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good with smooth grey patina, traces of original silver, and patches of light pitting. The grips are very good with minor handling marks and most of the varnish. Mechanically fair. B) Reid Model 4 Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 3013, 31 cal., 4 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, rosewood grips. Percussion nipples installed. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good with smooth grey patina, traces of original silver and blue, and mild pitting on the face of the cylinder. The grips are fine with mild wear and most of the varnish. Mechanically fair. C) Reid Model 3A Pocket Revolver - Serial no. 2196, 32 RF cal., 3 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, walnut grips. An estimated 220 Model 3As were manufactured in 1863. One percussion nipple installed. Matching serial numbers. CONDITION: Good overall with smooth grey patina, traces of original silver, patches of light pitting, and moderate wear and handling marks on the grips. Mechanically excellent.
