a factory error due to the similarities of the numbers. The receiver is factory embellished with a deer panel scene on the left, borders, and flourishes of floral scroll engraving. It is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights and is mounted with a finely figured, multi-point checkered forearm and pistol grip
stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .45-70 with a 26 inch octagon barrel and pistol grip stock when shipped on 16 November 1896, the engraving is not listed, but is certainly of factory origin.
CONDITION: Very good plus, retains 40% plus of the faded original blue finish and traces of the original case colors in sheltered areas with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and crisp engraving. The wood is also fine with a short hairline crack at the end of the upper tang, scattered minor dings and scratches, and otherwise mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Stunning, Extremely Scarce Marlin Model 93 Lever Action Saddle
Ring Trapper Carbine with 16 Inch Barrel - Serial no. 1087, 30-30 cal., 16
inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This is a unique Marlin Model
93 Carbine with special order 16 inch barrel. The standard barrel lengths for Model 1893 Carbines were 15 and
20 inches. “Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms” states that Marlin manufactured sixty-one Model 1893
Carbines with 15 inch barrels and one Model 1893 Carbine with a 15 1/2 inch barrel. Neither Flayderman’s or the “Marlin Firearms” by Brophy list a 16 inch barrel, however it is no doubt an extremely low number. The top of the barrel is stamped with the two-line Marlin legend ahead of the rear barrel band and “30-30” at the breech.
The left side of the barrel is stamped “SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL” flanked by diamonds, a marking adopted in 1904. The top of the casehardened receiver is marked “MARLIN SAFETY”. The upper tang is marked “MARLIN/MODEL 93” and is factory drilled and tapped for sight mounting. The barrel is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and elevation
adjustable rear sight. A saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth varnished walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue finish. The receiver retains 95% plus vivid original case colors. The lever retains 80% original striped case colors. Nearly all of the original
nitre blue finish remains on the loading gate. The wood is also excellent with a small surface chip at the buttplate heel, a few light handling marks, and most of the lightly crazed original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. A fabulous example of a Marlin Model 93 Trapper Carbine with non-standard 16 inch barrel that will make a grand statement in any Marlin or lever action collection. A definite must have for
the serious Marlin collector.
Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection.
