Exceptional, Presentation Inscribed, Ultra Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Deluxe Lever Action Takedown Rifle with Factory Carved Wood - Serial no. 565684, 32 W.S. cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, fancy checkered walnut stock. This Winchester Model 1894 Rifle has several highly sought after special order features such as the takedown configuration, 2/3 magazine tube, deluxe walnut forearm and pistol grip capped stock, deluxe stock checkering, sling eyelets, matted barrel, crescent buttplate with cleaning rod trap and hooded front sight. The combination of special order features on this rifle is extremely scarce. The high condition only adds to this rifle’s desirability. The left side of the receiver has a presentation inscription: “W.E.A./1914” in two oval panels. “W.E.A.” has yet to be identified. To accommodate the factory wavy line matting all barrel markings are stamped on the upper left flat. These markings are the two-line New Haven address/patent dates legend and two- line nickel steel marking followed by a Winchester factory oval proof and “32 W.S.” A second Winchester factory oval proof is correctly stamped on top of the receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The underside of the receiver has the serial number. The pistol grip stock has factory “F” style carving, a seldom ordered high end finish. The left side of the upper tang is marked “J.P.P.”, “3147”, and “CH 212 X”. The lower tang is marked “22” and “975 R.” With the exception of “212” the numbers on both tangs appear to be crossed out. The assembly number “212” is repeated on the butt of the stock and on the buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue finish on the receiver, 90% on the barrel and magazine tube. The takedown collar and buttplate are a mixture of original blue finish and smooth brown patina. 85% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. 95% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood is very fine with some minor handling marks, most of the crazed original varnish remaining and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A desirable, outstanding Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Rifle with several special order features that will be a great addition to any Winchester collection.
Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection.
Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
