|Description||A very nice example of a German Gew 98 rifle with a Voiglander 3x scope mounted on a side rail mounting system. The rear of the scope is marked "VOIGLANDER / BRAUNSCHWEIG . 3x" and the top is marked "Gew Nr. 8783f". The top of the receiver is marked "WAFFENFRABRIK / MAUSER A.-G. / OBERNDORF A/N. / 1918", The left side is marked with a "crown/N" proof, Imperial eagle and the serial number and the right side is marked with a faint crown, script letter proof, two "crown/E" and a "crown" proofs. The left rear of the barrel is marked a partial Waffenamt proof, the serial number and the "SS/skull and cross bones" Death Head stamp. The left side below the rear sight is marked "S/42K", partially covered by the stock. All visible serial numbers match. Stamped rear barrel band and machined front band, floor plate and trigger guard. Ramped front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The rifle is mounted with a laminated stock and matching handguard with a flat steel buttplate and marked with a small "eagle/swastika" and matching serial number in the grip area. Complete with a slotted cleaning rod.
|Condition||Professionally refurbished, with 98% of the correct style arsenal blue finish remaining with the exception of some thinning on the front sight base and a few scratches and thinning on the forward portion of the barrel. The stock shows only the slightest handling marks. The scope is good with some minor spotting on the eye piece and a few small areas of minor pitting on the body. The optics are clear. Unless mentioned above, the markings are clear. The action is excellent.|

SHIPPING CHARGES. All shipping charges must be paid by the successful bidder prior to delivery of the firearm. If Rock Island Auction (RIAC) is asked to ship the purchased lots, there will be a separate charge for such shipping. Shipping charges will be based upon what it costs RIAC to ship the purchased lots to the purchaser. All items must have shipping insurance; this insurance is mandatory. RIAC will not charge any labor charges for shipping. RIAC is not liable for any acts of omissions in packaging or shipping. Purchased lots handled by outside carriers or packers, including those RIAC may have recommended, may carry their own insurance and any claims for losses or damages should be addressed directly to the outside carriers or packers. RIAC will arrange for packing and shipping at RIAC’s earliest possible convenience. RIAC will attempt to ship as soon as possible; however, due to RIAC’s high volume of absentee bids, shipping can take up to two weeks after full payment is received. In the case of crating or any exceptional packaging, the purchaser will be charged RIAC’s cost from outside agents. Purchaser pays shipping, packing materials, and insurance charges. The shipping of any purchased items outside of the United States is hereby classified as “foreign export”. All foreign export is the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
