DescriptionThis is a restored example of a WWII German turret style sniper rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a Hensoldt sniper scope. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, however it is probably an earlier production rifle. The right side of the receiver is marked with three "eagle/63" proofmarks (partially covered by the scope base, the left side is marked with a Nazi firing proof, the serial number and a "eagle/135" proofmark. The left side wall is marked "Mod.98" and the left rear of the barrel is marked with a firing proof and the serial number, with a five pointed star at the breech, and the right rear of the barrel is marked "38". All visible serial numbers (partial and complete) are matching. The rifle has all machined parts and the matching bolt is a correct wartime version with the milled safety. The rifle is fitted with an early all blued sniper scope made by the Hensoldt scope company with the left side of the tube marked; "HENSOLDT-WETZLAR / DIALYTAN 4x 7466". The elevation knob is unmarked. The rifle is fitted with a walnut stock with flat buttplate and a drooped wing eagle and two "droop wing eagle/WaA63" proofmarks on the right rear, and "droop wing eagle/WaA63" in the grip area and matching serial number on the bottom.

ConditionProfessionally refinished with 60% finish remaining. The forward portion of the barrel, barrel bands, floor plate and trigger guard have a smooth brownish patina. There is some minor pitting under the finish on the rear portion of the barrel. The scope is excellent with clear optics. The stock is good. There are a number of small plugged repairs, several minor gouges and scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. Markings are crisp and clear. The action is very good.
