|Description||This is just an outstanding as new all original and unaltered pre-war Colt "ACE" semi-automatic pistol chambered in 22 LR that is complete with the original and matching numbered Colt shipping box, the original and matching numbered Colt factory test target and original instruction manual. What a fantastic find, these early pre-war Colt ACE pistols are extremely rare and very difficult to find in today's collector market in this kind of condition. These ACE pistols were developed to duplicate the weight and feel of the M1911A1 semi-automatic pistol however chambered in 22LR caliber to save on the cost of ammunition. This ACE series of pistol utilizes the lightweight slide with the standard barrel, shortened recoil spring, and guide with a set of fiber spacers on the spring guide, without the "floating chamber". These pistols duplicated the M1911 series of pistol in all respects except recoil. That was later accomplished by the development of the floating chamber design in the "Service Model Ace" pistols which was not developed until late 1937. The left side of the slide is roll-marked with the two-line, Colt Hartford address and 1897-1913 patent dates followed by the Colt "Rampant Horse" trademark behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-marked with the distinctive "COLT, followed by "ACE" inside a diamond border and ".22 LONG./RIFLE". The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a small "P" and "VP/inside a triangle" proofs and the right side has only the serial number "7927" stamped behind the pin hole. It has the correct Colt wide checkered spur hammer, with the checkered thumb safety, checkered slide stop and arched checkered main spring housing. The pistol has the Colt high-polish pre-war blue finish with a bright polished, barrel chamber area, full checkered walnut grip panels, and a two-tone Colt magazine. The base of the magazine is stamped "COLT/ACE/22LR". As noted this pistol is complete with the original and like new maroon Colt shipping box with the serial number "7927" marked on the underside of the box in pencil along with the original COLT ACE label on the end. It has the a original Colt factory test target that is correctly stamped with the Colt factory range information on the bottom of the target, with the COLT factory instruction manual. Consignor states this pistol was shipped 8/16/37 to Camp Perry.
|Condition||Excellent overall with 97% plus of the bright original blue finish overall with just some minor thinning. Wear on the center section of the front grip strap and the very front edges of the slide. The checkered walnut grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp factory checkering with no handling marks, pressure dents chips or damage. The slightly flattened box is in fine condition with tight corners, with minor scuffing along the edges and very corners of the box, with just some slight separation of the hinge. The label is complete and intact with only some minor fraying along the top edge. The test target and instruction are both in very fine condition. Overall just an all original, pre-war COLT ACE pistol that is complete with the original box and paperwork.|
