DescriptionThis double barrel Merkel rifle is chambered for the monster 500 Nitro Express caliber. These rifles are all hand made and represent the pinnacle of double rifles today. This example features a beaded blade front sight with ramp integral to the solid rib and one standing, three leaf rear sight on a quarter rib. The right barrel is script marked "Safari 500 N.E." at the breech and the left barrel is marked "Merkel USA Inc Trussville, AL/GEBR. MERKEL SUHL/MADE IN GERMANY" at the breech. Both barrels have a wedge of scrollwork at the chambers. Sling swivel studs are located on the underside of the rib and buttstock (sling swivels are included). The box lock action features a scroll engraving with African safari scenes on the sides. The left side has an elephant and the right side has a Cape buffalo. The receiver has cocking indicators. The scrollwork extends to the break lever and trigger guard. The forearm hardware is also engraved. Double triggers and manual tang safety. Mounted on a nicely figured pistol grip stock with checkering on the forearm and grip area. The buttstock has a grip cap, cheekpiece, and solid recoil pad. Comes with a leather bound combination lock takedown case. The inside of the lid has a leather Merkel label. Included is a box of Hornady 500 Nitro Express cartridges (20/20).

ConditionExcellent plus. The barrels retain 99% plus original blue finish with only the slightest handling marks. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks. The case is excellent.
