|Description||Manufactured in 1957. This Class 2 special order Super Grade featherweight rifle is the rarest of all standard production styles. Only 930 Super Grade Featherweights were produced. These rifles combined the elements of the Super Grade and to reduce weight features a slim tapered free-bedded 22 inch no. 10 barrel. The buttplate, magazine cover, hinge plate and trigger guard bow are aluminum and the stock has two 7 inch concealed holes. The rifle weighs 6 3/4 ponds. The special order barrel is sightless (sightless rifle were first listed in the 1960 Winchester catalog) and has the highly polished and "browned" to a satin like blue black finish that was featured on standard Super Grades from 1955 to 1959. The rifle has standard markings including the factory proof on the barrel and receiver at the breech and "-SUPER GRADE-" on the floor plate. The matte blue finished receiver is tapped for sight/scope mounting and has a straight tang. The bolt which is jewelled is numbered to the gun, has a jewelled extractor, matte blue handle with hallow knob and retains the original factory bolt tag numbered to the gun. The follower is also jewelled. The nicely figured Super Grade high comb stock is checkered and has an ebony forend tip, quick release sling swivels, cheekpiece and metal grip cap. The shipping box, original factory box numbered to the gun, instructions pamphlet, and R.L. Wilson's book WINCHESTER: AN AMERICAN LEGEND are included with the rifle. The factory box yellow end label confirms the grade, Monte Carlo stock and caliber and is ink stamped "SPECIAL" (see image). This rifle represents only .16% of total production making it a very desirable and rare Model 70 rifle.
