|Description||This is a beautiful example of an engraved and gold inlaid Winchester Model 70 Featherweight rifle. The receiver features floral scroll designs with a feather design border. There is a 1 3/4" wedge of floral scroll engraving on the breech end top of the barrel with punch dot and gold inlaid accents. The floor plate has two gold inlaid deer in a forest scene in the center flanked by the same engraving pattern found on the receiver with gold inlay bordering. There is a gold inlaid oval on the trigger guard flanked by floral scroll engraving. Equipped with a hooded front ramp sight and adjustable folding rear leaf sight with the receiver tapped for scope sight mounting. The left side of the barrel has the Winchester legend and the left side of the receiver is marked "WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-" with the Winchester factory oval proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver. Straight receiver tang, late safety and jeweled bolt, follower and extractor, with the bolt not numbered. Mounted with a one piece deluxe select walnut checkered pistol grip Monte Carlo stock with B grade Fleur De Lis carving with matte border, ebony forend, Winchester grip cap, checkered steel buttplate and sling swivel bases. Complete with a box numbered to the gun, papers, cardboard spacers, and waxed paper. The modified end label is stamped "SPECIAL" and "SELECT WOOD", and has non-factory handwritten "B-CARVINg" and "ENG AS PER SKETCH". The term "STANDARD" was crudely erased and handwritten "MONTE CARLO" over this area. There is also a copy of a special order form with special instructions stating "ATT: SPECIAL ORDER ALL MATERIALS & WORKMANSHIP TO BE OF THE FINEST QUALITY POSSIBLE" with the serial number "368195" description as follows "358 FWT SPECIAL SUPER GRADE SPECIAL SELECTED WOOD - AS MUCH FIDDLEBACK AS POSSIBLE MONTE CARLO STOCK B-CARVING FULLY ENGRAVED FLOORPLATE WITH DEER GOLD INLAID - SEE SKETCH ENGRAVED TRIGGER GUARD & RECEIVER". RIA does not guarantee this to be factory engraved, however the factory like quality of workmanship would lead you to believe that it is.
|Condition||Near mint as custom factory-like quality embellished, with only the slightest handling marks overall. The remarked label on the box is good. The box itself has a tear on a long lid side otherwise it is solid. This is a rare opportunity to own a fine Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 of superb quality.|
