Description:

Made in 1890, this rifle was returned to the factory sometime after June, 1903, when the takedown system was patented and the 33 WCF cartridge was invented and before 1907 when the factory started marking the barrels and receivers on reworked rifles. The non-factory checkering could have been added at any time. Lyman dovetail front sight and semi-buckhorn elevator rear sight on barrel with the standard Winchester two line New Haven address and caliber markings. The hammer, lever, and frame are casehardened. One line model designation on the upper tang with patent dates "OCT. 14. 1884. / JAN. 20. 1885." on the lower tang. Checkered walnut straight grip stock with a metal forearm tip and smooth carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with faint traces of blue remaining. A mixed brown and gray patina is forming on the surface, along with some scattered spotting and light handling marks. The action had colors added by torch after cleaning and polishing some of this remains, along with some light spotting in the silver areas. The stock is good as cleaned, with some light chipping around the upper tang and a few light handling marks. The action is excellent.
