Also includes two M1 carbine stocks, M1 Garand stock, two M1 Garand forearms, one carbine forearm and a Richardson Bros. display board of four carbine stock parts. J.S. Richardson Co. 1936 Jairus S. Richardson, heir to the Richardson Brothers company, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, left the furniture company in 1936 to start up J.S. Richardson Company, a developer of specialized wood working machinery. The machinery used in the production of M1 Garand, M1 carbines and M1A1carbine handguards and pistol grips were developed early in WWII by 1.S. Richardson Co., which built a number of cutters and shapers for subcontractors of rifle parts. Throughout the war and later, Richardson Brothers produced thousands of walnut handguards, initially for the paratrooper’s M1A1 model and eventually the NATO version of the weapon. The examples shown on the display board as well as the stock and handguards of the MI Garand, MI carbines, and the M1A1 carbine that are to be auctioned were from 1.S. Richardson Co. The pistol grip of the MIA1 carbine is stamped “R.I.” on the bottom, which I attribute to Richardson Brothers Co. Also, there is no stamp on the upper portion of the M1A1 stock, in back of the receiver, always found on the Inland models, which used a letter “P” inside a circle for their stamp.
