36" OAL, with a 30" blade gold washed and etched "Carl G. Rasmus", gilt hilt with folding counter-guard, silver finished brass grip, and nickel scabbard with 1896 etching to (then Lieutenant) Rasmus from Company A, 23rd Regiment, New York National Guard. Carl Gerhard Rasmus, a resident of Cedarhurst on Long Island would continue his career with the 23rd Regiment until 1913, retiring at the brevet rank of Colonel and permanent rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
