Description:

35 5/8" OAL with a 29 1/2" etched blade, brass hilt, folding counter-guard, wire wrapped grip and metal scabbard with brass fittings. A faint name is etched on the blade, which the consignor states is that of Medal of Honor winner William Birkhimer. Originally seeing action as a Civil War enlisted volunteer, Birkhimer would later become an artillery officer and lawyer, earning the MoH for action in Luzon in 1899, where he led a team of 11 scouts against a 300-man enemy force driving the enemy off. He would retire in 1906 as a Brigadier General. Fair overall, some parts absent.
