Edwards is considered responsible for casting the James Brothers as heroes fighting against oppression from "Northern" businessmen in Missouri. Jurors' sympathy for the James Brothers is often credited with preventing convictions.. The letter from October 1883 discusses hoping other cases against James will be dismissed.
