Description:

Isidore Bonheur (Fr: 1827-1901). This cold painted bronze depicts the racing horse taking a bow to show the appreciation of winning a race or respect to the crowd watching the horse. The jockey is dressed in mid 19th Century apparel and he is also facing sideways to acknowledge the winning of the horse and his magnificent riding ability shown in the race. The horse has 2 legs up & the other two legs are resting on the bronze ground base that rests on a rectangular marble plinth. The dimensions are Ht: 23", wgt: @75 lbs. A similar bronze is depicted in the Bergman Bronzes books, Vol. 3, pg. 743-714, #2701. Very good.
