Description:

The revolver was manufactured in 1862 and has a four-screw frame, cut-outs for the shoulder stock, yokes in the recoil shield, iron back strap with a notch for the stock yoke in the butt, and eight-inch barrel. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT". Although the frame has the four screws found on pistols fitted with attachable shoulder stocks, it lacks the special extended screws to engage the stock yokes fitted to revolvers issued with attachable stocks. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". "PAT. SEPT 10th 1850" is roll stamped beneath the Colt markings on the cylinder. "COLTS/PATENT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. Single letter Ordnance sub-inspection marks are stamped on the back strap, cylinder, trigger guard, and the left side of the barrel lug. The full serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and side of the cylinder. Traces of the Ordnance final inspection stamp are visible on the lower left side of the grip. The reproduction military contract Third Style attachable shoulder stock has a brass yoke and buttplate with casehardened butt hook and knurled nut. A faint rectangular Ordnance inspection stamp with three script initials is stamped on the left side of the stock wrist. "U.S." enclosed in a rectangle is stamped on the stock comb ahead of the buttplate. The iron sling ring is missing from the stock.
