Description:

Bronze bust statue of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, by Frederick Volck (German-Conf. American 1833-1891). Executed in 1869, of then-President Grant in the same style of Gen. Lee, which Volck previously created in 1863. Volck was grateful of Gen. Lee's treatment by Gen. Grant at Appomattox when Gen. Lee signed a Peace Treaty. It is recorded in Grant's diary that Lee visited Grant several times at the White House, where Lee presented Grant with this statue. Bust is 18" in height, 8" in width, 12" long, weighing 50 lb, signed and dated on the backside 'Frederick Volck,1869, Richmond, VA". Very good as restored.
