Description:

Frederick Volck (German, American, Confederate American 1833-1891) sculptured this original bronze of Gen. Lee in 1863 while the Civil War was still raging on with no end in sight. This statue was an abbreviated statue of only Lee. Volck, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, was employed in the Confederate Naval Ordinance & Hydrography Dept. in 1863. This sculpture was to commemorate the victories that Lee brought to the South, as well as a rallying symbol for the Confederacy. This sculpture of Lee is from the original Terra Cotta done by Volck and is guaranteed to be original. The dimensions of the bronze of Lee HT:19",W:8",L:12", and rests on a black marble plinth. Weight is 50 LBS. The bronze has in the front in block letters "Robert E Lee" and the obverse "Frederick Volck 1863 Richmond, Virginia". Very good.
