Description:

This Zeltbahn, or German shelter quarter, was issued to SS troops during World War II. Made out of camouflage material, this Zeltbahn is fully reversible with summer and autumn colors. It is made of a water repellent material which is imprinted with "plane tree" camouflage pattern that matched the troops' parkas/anoraks. Similar examples pictured and described in the book "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS" by Beaver. Nazi Gas Mask Set Marked to a Luftwaffe Flak Trooper. The can painted in green and brown and marked "A.Z.12" and "E. Buchner" in white paint, and the mask marked "A.Z.12/Buchner" in white on the filter mount and "Obgefr. Buchner / 12" in black on the chinstrap. A paper label attached to the spare lens case is marked to Flakersatzabteilung (Replacement Anti-Aircraft Detachment) 33 out of Weimar, an anti-aircraft training/induction unit formed about 1941 and active to the end of the war. Obergefreiter (Corporal) Buechner has not been positively identified, though may have been a member of 33's cadre of permanent staff/trainers. Very good with a few scattered holes with the largest being 1/2 inch long. The gas mask set is good, with mild rust present on the can and filter, and some wear and stains on the mask and straps.
