Description:

Factory Letter lists this revolver with a 6" barrel (currently 3 1/2") in .38 LC, blue finish and checkered black hard rubber grips when shipped on Nov. 9, 1893, and delivered to D.W. Flagler (no address listed). This was a special order revolver, and as S&W historian Roy Jinks noted in the factory letter, "there were less than 5 of these known produced." Brigadier General Daniel Webster Flagler (1835-1899) graduated from the U.S. military Academy in 1861 and had a military career that spanned over 38 years. During the Civil War, he was Chief of Ordnance, Army of the Potomac, assumed command of Rock Island Arsenal in 1871 when he was only a captain, and in 1891 assumed the post of Chief of Ordnance where he remained on active duty until he died.
