Gastinne-Renette was one of the most prestigious gunmakers and retailers of mid to late 19th century Paris. Their shop and range were a major nexus of local marksmanship and dueling culture. Louis-Julien Gastinne-Renette was the gunmaker to Napoleon III as well as the king of Spain. Exhibition pistols of this same basic pattern by the firm are contained in some of the world's finest art museums. Modern import marks are on the bottom of the barrels.
