OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

Description:

Manufactured in 1869. The rifle features beautiful factory scroll engraving on the forend cap, frame, and buttplate and falls within the first group of Winchesters engraved by Conrad F., John, and Herman L. Ulrich. Note in particular 27401 on page 65 of "Winchester Engraving" by R.L. Wilson who notes it is believed to be one of the first rifles engraved by the Ulrichs when they arrived in New Haven in 1869. It has the a very similar design on the left sideplate. The rifle also features a brass blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards, the two-line address and King's improvement patent marking, brown leather sling (front swivel detached), and XX grade walnut stock and forearm with some nice figure. The left side of the lower tang has "S" and "XX." The upper tang mortise and buttplate have the partial serial number "7415." A number has been added along the left edge of the buttplate.
