Description:

This example appears to be a finely crafted contemporary copy. The lock mechanism is currently non-functional and has no sear. Includes a copy of "The Typhoon Brought Guns" by Harold L. Peterson discussing how the matchlock was first introduced in Japan via a Chinese trading boat that was blown of course during a typhoon in 1642 and landed on the island of Tanegashima. The island's name came to mean "firearm" to the Japanese after this event.
