Description:

Clip point bowie knife, 14 1/4" OAL, 9 1/16" blade with No. 6 Norfolk street address and ricasso marked with asterisk and maltese cross, "LOUISIANA" and "TIGERS" engraved on either side of the bottom of the guard, "CSA" engraved on the pommel, the fluted bone grip has an attached badge of a pelican feeding its young. The case is leather wrapped and fitted for the knife with "Colonel J.M. Williams C.S.A./From/The Officers of the 15th" on the lid. With consignor research attributing the knife to Jesse M. Williams, captain of Company D "Pelican Rifles" in the 2nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment, later colonel of the 2nd, and briefly commander of the 2nd Louisiana Brigade. Very good overall, some evidence of light cleaning, light spotting, and generally an attractive antique patina.
