Manufactured in 1881 per an included factory letter, this early hammerless big bore duck and goose gun has a browned damascus twist barrel signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON” and with bead front sight and standing rear sight with platinum inlaid center line. Border engraved action signed “CLIMAX SAFETY HAMMERLESS” on the left side. Blued underlever and trigger guard. Figured pistolgrip stock with checkered grip, butt and forearm, the latter with green horn cap. Action and barrel with Birmingham black powder reproof marks. In canvas and leather fitted case with printed Holland & Holland trade label and instructions. The letter comes with a copy of a fax of a factory ledger book, and notes that no firm data (save the date) was available on the item. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
