The browned damascus barrels are signed “C. Moore, 77 St James's Street, LONDON, Maker to the late King”, the breech ends are engraved with scrollwork and the patent breeches each have a platinum plug. Engraved floating “island” sidelocks each signed “C. MOORE’S PATENT” and with stepped tail. Figured walnut half-stock with checkered grip and inset at the wrist with silver shield shaped escutcheons engraved with a crest involving a Classical temple and tusks, the butt with engraved heel plate. Border and scroll engraved trigger guard with grip safety bar signed “SAFETY”. The underside of the barrels struck with London proof marks, and with original ramrod. The pair contained in their original mahogany case with lift out tray, lined in green baize and with printed Charles Moore trade label in the lid. With some accessories including Dixon & Sons “Irish” twin nozzle shot belt and Dixon brass topped powder flask. This rare pair of London best quality percussion shotguns were made circa 1840.
