Description:

Includes a copy of a factory letter listing this rifle in "Order Book No. 8 as a Model 1878 Military Rifle" invoiced on January 22, 1879, to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham in New York City as a .45-70 caliber rifle for $16. It was part of a large 1,000 rifle order of 1878 Military Rifles shipped in 15 crates as part of a contract for 3,200 of the rifles shipped in October 1878 to January 1879. The stock has an interlocking "JPL" (looks like "LB") circular cartouche on the left from J.P. Lower of Denver.
