Description:

The carbine has the short wrist stock, buttplate with trap, low arch breechblock, M1879 buckhorn rear sight and saddle bar with ring on the left of the stock, blued barrel, barrel band, trigger guard, lock, hammer and buttplate. The breechblock and barrel tang are color casehardened with vivid colors. The stock is oil-finished black walnut. The lock is marked with the eagle and shield device forward of the hammer followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" in two lines. The serial number "132010" is located on the rear of the receiver. The breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" in three lines. "V/P/eagle head/P" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The left side of the rear sight base and leaf are marked "C" (carbine). Crisp "SWP/1880" boxed script cartouche on the left stock flat. "J.C" inspection initials marked behind the lower tang with no "P" proofmark. Includes three-piece cleaning rod and shell extractor tool in butt compartment. Provenance: The George Moller Collection
