According to the accompanying factory letter, this is one of 89 revolvers delivered to the U.S. Government inspector at the Colt plant on May 12, 1880. The "US" re-stamped frame has the David F. Clark "DFC" inspector marking, which is repeated on the barrel and cylinder. Matching re-stamped numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, and barrel. The grip has faint cartouches on both sides and the date "1880" on the left side.
