Completed c. 1867, with browned Damascus barrels each engraved with a band of stylized running foliage at the breech end. Concave rib with bead sight, signed “WESTLEY RICHARDS. 170. NEW BOND ST. LONDON” and engraved “PATENT” towards the scroll engraved doll’s head extension. Single bite action with toplever engraved “WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT” and sidelocks each signed “WESTLEY RICHARDS”, the breech face stamped “WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT 1413” (Patent No. 2623, October 22, 1864, use number 1413). With classic British border and scroll engraving. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with Birmingham black powder proof marks. Figured 14" walnut straight hand stock with characteristic crab joint knuckle and panels of multipoint checkering to the grip and forearm. In lined and fitted mahogany case, the lid with printed Westley Richards & Co. trade label, the exterior with flush fitting brass carrying handle and circular brass escutcheon engraved with a crest and monogram.
