Measuring 47" wide and 34 3/4" tall, the art is a print applied to a painted cardboard "frame" with a wood backing structure, with a scene of native Americans in full warrior regalia among tepees and similar dressing. "SPARKS CIRCUS" is marked on the top in red, "CHIEF IRON SHELL/AND HIS/BAND OF/SIOUX INDIAN WARRIORS" in yellow in the bottom right, and the mark of the Erie Lithograph and Print Company in the lower left. Records show multiple men from the Sicangu Lakota/Brule Sioux known as "Chief Iron Shell", the most prominent (b.1816-d.1896) being a veteran of conflicts with the Pawnee and Omaha, as well as the U.S. Army before settling on what was then the Great Sioux Reservation. The Sparks Circus was established in the 1890s, later being absorbed by the American Circus Corporation in 1928. Good overall, with a few absent sections at the corners of the "frame" and separation of some of the material, the print showing some tears and touched up repairs.
