Description:

The barrel, receiver and included bayonet are all marked with a sunburst motif above "RM" (Republic of Mexico). An old piece of paper is adhered to the right of the buttstock with faintly visible illegible hand writing in black ink. Absent rear sight. Flayderman states about Whitney Type I Rolling Block military muskets, "few specimens found in U.S. collections and those usually in heavily worn condition." and further states that the Mexican contract examples are worth a premium.
