Description:

The Victorian era was accompanied by the romanticization of the Medieval period and, combined with an increasing consumer class, led to the creation of reproductions of bygone armor and weapons for display in homes which continued well into the 20th century. The armor stands approximately 61 inches tall with the hardwood stand, with the stand measuring approximately 15 1/2 x 16 inches and 7 1/2 inches tall, with rods to support the armor from the inside. This example has a close helmet that features a two-piece skull and visor with ventilation holes. It is decorated with extensive acid etched scrollwork. Very good overall, the metal showing an attractively aged mix of grey and brown patinas and some scattered light oxidation with the etching crisp. Some of the smaller connective tabs are slightly bent. The stand is very fine with minimal handling/storage wear.
