Description:

This desirable set was manufactured/retailed by a few different British makers c. 1830s to 1880s. The maker's include W.B. Hilliard of Glasgow, Young of Edinburgh, and Ferguson of London. Though the instruments in this set bear various maker's marks, the items appear to have been a set together for quite some time. Most of the instruments in this set have matching smooth ebony grips of a similar style. The set includes all of the typical tools found in a surgeon's amputation set from the period including a capital saw, smaller bone/metacarpal saw, large and medium amputating knives, scalpels, tourniquet, and more. All of the items are contained in the included mahogany case that has a fitted interior lined with red velvet.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the instruments mostly bright with some scattered patches of light oxidation/patina and generally clear maker's marks. The grips of the instruments are generally fine with a few minor cracks and handling marks. The case is fine with some scattered minor handling/storage marks.
