Description:

This is a very good example of a mid-WWII Winchester Manufacture, M1 carbine that was arsenal refurbished and retrofitted with a Korean War era M3 Infrared sniper scope. These scopes were originally manufactured in late 1944 and saw only very limited use in WWII with much greater use in Korea. This M1 Carbine has the standard front receiver markings with the rear marked "WINCHESTER/Trademark" over the serial number. The top front area of the barrel is stamped with a circled "WP" Winchester factory proofmark in front of the bayonet lug and it has a mix of early and late parts, such as a late round bolt, type III barrel band/bayonet lug, "W" marked trigger housing and hammer, with a post war "SA" marked, M2 stock and four rivet handguard. The standard M1 Carbine rear sight has been removed and it is fitted with the standard M3 scope mounting bar on top of the carbine, with the cast in drawing number of "8247-39-1" cast into the top of the front section of the bar. This desirable M1 carbine rig is complete with a Korean War era M3 infrared sniper scope. The data plate on the scope is marked; "CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY/TELESCOPE/SNIPERSCOPE INFRARED, 20000 VOLTS/AMERICAN OPTICAL CO./BUFFALO, N.Y." It is dated "8-31-50" with serial number "M3. 5447.50". The scope is complete with the infrared collector on top of the scope, a M3 power pack, battery (untested, but looks new), forward mounted pistol grip/trigger assembly, the various cables and one of the original rubberized pack/carrying case. The M3 scope, cables, power pack and battery are all stored in an original green M3 storage case/chest with the large "U.S." M3 scope markings stenciled on the lid. The carbine is complete with one 15 round magazine and an original M3 flash hider manufactured by the Underwood Company. Scope untested.
