Receiver manufactured in 1898. The engraving, identified as by well-known 1950s-1960s engraver Arnold Griebel by the consignor, features a gold finch on the left and wild roses on the right surrounded by floral and oak leaf engraving. The bird and centers of the flowers are gold inlaid. Stocked by Thomas Shelhamer and numbered "1265" who has signed the butt of the stock which the consignor indicated is European walnut. With Winchester double set triggers, Bausch and Lomb Balvar 24 scope and 219 Mashburn Improved dies. This is a good example of a single shot varmint rifle of the type built prior to and following World War II.

Excellent as professionally refinished with some light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Optics hazy, reticle clear.
