An estimated 7,000 Colt First Model Dragoon revolvers were manufactured between 1848-1850, with this example manufactured in 1849. The First Model Dragoon is an important descendant of the famous Colt Walker revolver, which debuted just one year earlier, and was meant for use by the U.S. Mounted Riflemen and U.S. Dragoons. They saw use on the western frontier in the antebellum era and on the battlefields of the Civil War on both sides. "COLTS/PATENT/US" stamped on left of frame. Provenance: The Phillip Otto Clark Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with much of the artificial patina on the cleaned surfaces, some restamped markings, some scattered light pitting, and some minor handling marks on the worn grip. Mechanically fair, cylinder out of time.
