Description:

Fraudulent "JWALSH" markings have been added to the lock and top of the barrel of this likely 18th century Continental European pistol. A John Walsh Officer's pistol of considerably different style from the C.E. duPont collection can be found on page 38 of "Historic Pistols: The American Martial Flintlock, 1760-1845" by Smith and Bitter where the authors also note "It is to be regretted that a few brass barreled pistols had the Walsh name fraudulently applied about thirty-five years ago, following the description of this genuine one in Gluckman's United States Martial Pistols and Revolvers." That pistol and its mate can be seen as a pair on pages 150 and 151 of "The Kentucky Pistol" by Chandler and Whisker. Provenance: The Dr. Douglas Sirkin Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Good with mix of natural and artificially aged patina, mild oxidation/pitting, some cracks and repairs in the stock including spliced repairs in the wrist, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
