Description:

Manufactured in 1936. The right side of the stock has an incised/branded "'5'/SPOT" in a circle with white and red paint. These rifles are discussed in "Winchester Slide-Action Rifles Volume II: Model 61 & Model 62" by Ned Schwing on page 170. Newspapers from the period show that the challenge at the "5" Spot Short Range Gun Club of America was to entirely shoot out the "5" Spot on the target with three shots to win cash and also note that winners were eligible to compete in a national tournament held by the Five Spot Gun Clubs of America. In 1936, one article indicates there were nearly 200 locations throughout the country, but they appear to have only existed c. 1936-1937.

Rating Definition:

Very good, original finish with some brown patina, oxidation, and handling evidence. Wood has a few dings and scratches. Stock marking crisp. Mechanically excellent.
